The Minister of State for Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, emphasized the Government's unwavering dedication to equipping India's youth with the necessary skills and resources to lead the nation towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).
During a press conference in New Delhi, the Minister highlighted that skill development is a key priority for the Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and it plays a crucial role in India's progress. He also outlined the steps being taken to achieve a US $30 trillion GDP.
Additionally, the Minister drew attention to initiatives by the Ministry of Textiles, such as the SAMARTH Scheme, which provides training aimed at enhancing candidates' employability and productivity to meet the evolving demands of the textile industry.
The Textile Ministry is actively promoting skill development in the textile sector through the SAMARTH Scheme. The scheme offers subsidized premium looms and yarns to encourage skill development. Over 3.48 lakh beneficiaries have received training, with a placement rate of 79%. Additionally, 3.6 lakh women have been trained, and a significant portion of the beneficiaries belong to marginalized communities, including Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The Minister of State highlighted the importance of the National Technical Textile Mission and the awards for research and entrepreneurship in the field of technical textiles. The Textiles Ministry encourages startups to innovate and contribute to the growth of the technical textile industry.
The Textiles Ministry is actively supporting startups in the technical textile sector. The Ministry has already approved US $741,000 for 12 startup initiatives. The Minister emphasized the importance of the "5F" framework: Farmer, Fibre, Factory, Fashion and Foreign, in driving the growth of the textile industry.
Pabitra Margherita stated that the textile sector currently employs around 4.5 crore people, making it the second-largest employer in India, following agriculture. The Ministry of Textiles aims to increase this number to 10 crores by 2030. Additionally, the Minister highlighted that the Ministry has set a target of reaching a market size of US $350 billion by 2030, with the textile industry's current market size standing at approximately US $165 billion.
