Uttar Pradesh is poised to play a pivotal role in India’s ambitious textile export target of $103 billion by 2030, leveraging its rich textile heritage, skilled workforce, and robust government initiatives, according to an official spokesperson.
Renowned for its centuries old textile traditions, UP stands as a major contributor to the nation’s textile economy. Kanpur remains a hub for industrial textile production, while Lucknow’s chikankari embroidery continues to gain global recognition. Simultaneously, Gautam Buddha Nagar has emerged as a powerhouse for ready-made garments, reinforcing UP’s stronghold in the industry.
Recognizing this vast potential, the State Government has launched several strategic programs aimed at enhancing textile production and empowering artisans. The One District One Product (ODOP) initiative has been instrumental in revitalizing textile crafts across multiple districts, ensuring sustained growth and employment opportunities.
To further boost infrastructure, flatted factories have been established in Gorakhpur and other districts, facilitating organized production units. The ODOP program also aims to establish Common Facility Centres in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Lucknow, Mirzapur, and Bhadohi by 2025, fostering industrial expansion and efficiency.
A landmark initiative under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is the 118-acre Apparel Park in Sector 29, strategically designed to attract large-scale investments. Similarly, the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) has developed a garment park with 80 flatted factory units, further strengthening the sector.
Additionally, at least five new garment parks are being planned in Gautam Buddha Nagar, along major expressways, and within 50 km of Jewar Airport, promising enhanced connectivity and trade efficiency.
The Purvanchal region is also set to emerge as a major hub for ready-made clothing, complementing the existing Integrated Textile and Apparel Industrial Park in Agra. Further bolstering the industry, the Central Government has announced a Cotton Mission, allocating $6 million for the National Cotton Technology Mission, signaling a new era of textile innovation and export growth.
